Although the Shakers once inhabited nineteen communal settlements and reached a maximum size of approximately 6,000 members in the 1800s, the Sabathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester, Maine is the only active Shaker community remaining in the world. The herb products, that they provide us with, are grown in gardens more than 200 years old, dried in a facility built in 1845, and packaged in tin canisters just like those used by our forbears throughout the 1800s.
